The Platinum Hurricane Spectacular Experience

Fly with a HurricaneThis experience will take place at the airfield from where the Spitfire and/or Hurricane are based – you’ll enjoy that magical moment when the Merlin is fired up, and then as the Scramble! Bell is rung, you’ll make your way to board your executive helicopter.

Fly with a HurricaneSeated comfortably, you’ll take off to take a strategic viewing position in the air to see the Hurricane take off. Once your aircraft are synchronised in flight, you’ll make your way to the sites of the Battle of Britain airfields of Lympne and Hawkinge. You are now flying in the airspace that some of the most intense aerial fighting took place, which makes it even more poignant to see the Hurricane fly with the Battle of Britain Memorial as the backdrop below.

Fly with a HurricaneThe Hurricane flies within waving distance of you during the flight (see Gallery) and you can pass requests for the pilot to position their aircraft for that perfect photo shot – you are truly in charge of your own ‘remote control’ Hurricane!

As you fly down the coast, you will be moved by the sight of the aircraft on one side and the French coast on the other – just seven minutes Hurricane time away! Put yourself in the position of a young fighter pilot at that time – imagine the emotions he must have experienced in those moments before he flung his machine into battle.

Fly with a HurricaneFlying from the Memorial, you will then soar along the coast taking in Samphire Hoe, Dover harbour, Dover Castle, the famous Twin Sisters aerials that formed part of the chain radar that were intrinsic to the successful outcome of the Battle of Britain. Then you will see the White Cliffs of Dover – which as a backdrop to the Hurricane could not be a more emotive sight – these are the most remarkable opportunities you will ever have for air to air photography with the legendary Hurricane.

Flying on, the South Foreland lighthouse comes into sight, sitting proudly on the clifftop – this is the turning point on your flight, and again provides another magical backdrop.

Fly with a HurricaneFlying back along the coast, the aircraft will continue their specially choreographed routines culminating in the signature barrel roll around the helicopter. This precision manoeuvre has been specially developed by Dave Harvey and is only performed by him in the Hurricane, and is done exclusively for Platinum and Gold Plus flights.

Once past the Memorial, the flight returns to the airfield, where you land and then enjoy the ground viewing experience of the aircraft – including meeting the pilot of the aircraft you have been flying with. This part of the experience allows you to get up close and personal to the Hurricane, and to view and photograph the aeroplane to your heart’s content. Ask the pilot any questions that you may have about the flying of these magnificent aircraft, or about any aspect of the machine that you’ve always wanted to know.

Fly with a HurricaneAfter the ground viewing experience, you will then board the helicopter again for a second flight around the area – the Memorial Tour which may include the landing at the Battle of Britain Memorial, and a scenic flight enabling you to take those photographs that you wish you had taken before! The flight is relaxing and is intended to help you reflect on and gather your thoughts on the Battle of Britain, and the remarkable achievements of The Few.

(Landings at the Memorial will depend on weather and operational restrictions)

On your return, you will receive your framed print with signatures of both the pilot and Steve Burt, the originator of the Fly with a Hurricane Experiences, and owner of Action Stations! This along with your own photographs will make a marvellous display and help you remember what will have been the Ultimate Gift Experience – never to be forgotten.
